RJRPRES: longrunning bimonthly covering all aspects of saxophone playing (both jazz, rock & classical music) through workshops, columns, reviews and long interviews. includes an instructional cd with transcriptions.

RJRPRES: thick xeroxed french rock fanzine covering mostly french rock. well worth getting.

*schall (germany/german)
RJRPRES: new german quarterly covering various kinds of popular music (rock, pop, rap, electronica. punk, folk etc) from the german-speaking sphere. looks very promising, and is set to become a valuable source of information within its scope. highly recommended.

RJRPRES: new monthly magazine covering jazz & classical music. each issue contains a few interesting articles and record reviews. quite expensive in relation to the limited content. extensive listings of new recordings with catalog numbers.

scram magazine (usa/english)
RJRPRES: long-running zine subtitled; a journal of unpopular culture. not entirely true as they cover a lot of fairly popular artists old & new. touches on non-music topics too for good measure. highly recommended.

RJRPRES: new mag covering various musics like indie rock, rap, experimental etc. interesting articles & personal record reviews make this one to get.

scream magazine (norway/norwegian)
RJRPRES: long-running norwegian language metal magazine with articles & reviews covering both national & international acts, from extreme to heavy etc + some prog. recommended.

se7e (portugal/portuguese)
RJRPRES: large format portuguese weekly covering music, cinema etc. well worth investigating.

sea of tranquility (usa/english)
RJRPRES: shortlived u.s. quarterly covering rock from heavy metal to progressive. absolutely worth checking out. paper edition discontinued after issue 8, but the website lives on.

RJRPRES: very personal fanzine into various shades of alternative rock with good interviews & valuable reviews. worth seeking out.

RJRPRES: fantastic (but highly irregular) zine with extensive interviews of musicians, artists & other personalities. issue no 2 came with an original picture by steve keene. highly recommended.

*shindig! magazine (uk/english)
RJRPRES: fantastic uk zine covering mostly 60s rock (psyche, garage, beat etc) & related. extensive well-researched articles on both well-known & lesser known artists make this one a must to seek out. issue 47 called kaleidoscope.

shook (uk/english)
RJRPRES: excellent british quarterly with an eclectic mix of jazz, world music, dance, electronica, reggae etc. (+ some cinema, art & literature). kind of a heir to straight no chaser.

show kai (usa/english)
RJRPRES: american fanzine covering alternative japanese rock. comes with cassettes of exclusive material. all very impressive & recommended. irregular. possibly a one-off.

signal to noise / soundboard (usa/english)
RJRPRES: quarterly magazine with focus on improvised, experimental music & jazz with touches of funk, rock, world music etc. excellent articles & reviews too. highly recommended. started out as soundboard, issues 1-6

RJRPRES: folded newspaper covering ska music old & new. both articles & reviews make this one of the best i-ve seen within its field. highly recommended.

skug (austria/german)
RJRPRES: important austrian quarterly subtitled journal für musik, but it also covers art, cinema & literature along with most facets of contemparary popular music from electronica to rock etc. quite intellectual in style. not an easy read. recommended. last issue

RJRPRES: important american zine covering hardcore, rock, punk & other kinds of popular music, mostly of the indie variety. the mags has grown fast and is always interesting to read. highly recommended.

RJRPRES: strange american fanzine with variable content often by various known/unknown persons within the alternative rock scene in america. always readable though sometimes quite obscure. worth investigating.
